Helpful Lele

Lele and mama were playing in the living room when Lele's grandpa arrived at doorstep. He had returned from getting dinner for all of us. Mama said to Lele,

"Look who's at the door, Lele!"

He looked and saw his favourite grandpa standing at the door. So mama said to him,

"Lele, please take the keys to yeye (grandpa) to open the door. Yeye needs the keys to open the door. Otherwise he won't be able to get in."

So Lele started walking towards the kitchen where the keys were placed. Mama handed him the bunch of house keys and asked him to give it to his grandpa. Instead of moving immediately, Lele stood on the spot fidgetting with the keys. Thinking that he might have been distracted by a potential play toy on his hand and changed his mind about giving the keys to his grandpa, I repeated the instructions a few more times.

Finally he held out a black-handled key and gave that key to his grandpa. Grandpa and mama broke out in laughter. They were all amazed that Lele actually selected one key from the bunch of keys to give to his grandpa, even though mama and grandpa did not tell him to do so. And he actually chose the correct key as well.

It reminded mama of an advertisement mama saw quite some time ago. In the ad, a daddy was "teaching" his son to say the word "hua (flower in mandarin)" by pointing at a picture. The boy remained silent. The daddy repeated several times with "hua" but the boy remained silent. The daddy's face started showing signs of impatience and anxiety when the boy said,

"bu, shi hujihua (No, it's an orchid flower)!"

Who's teaching who?

Active Lele

Wonder why Lele is so active...

Yesteray during the Kindermusik class, he was the most active toddler in the class of 12. None of the activities seem to be able to capture his attention for long. He seemed to enjoy walking and socialising much more than lessons. Well, Lele has always been quite active in class, but yesterday he was just SO active.

I wonder why.

My in-laws were standing outside the classroom to observe the lesson for the 1st time.

Could his active (and fussy) behaviour be due to their presence? Or is it due to familiarity with lesson and so he is abit bored with things? Or perhaps his behaviour is just a passing phase? Afterall, he had just started walking confidently 1 week or so ago. It should be understandable if he finds it a terrible waste to be seated at mama's lap when he could be explorin with his newfound walking skills!

Whatever it is, I am glad for an active child. Being an active monkey of a person myself, I guess I would be at a loss if my child is very shy, withdrawn and quiet.

I don't have anything against quiet children. Just that if I'm not very good with quiet adults so I figure I won't be able to handle quiet children very well too...

Life as a SAHM...

Eversince becoming a SAHM 4 days ago, life has been pretty busy tending to the little one, house and lotsa whatnots. Perhaps it is still too early to tell but I seem to be coping quite okay, if I can say so of myself!
I am really thankful to be granted my wish to become SAHM and have the full support of my husband, ILs and all around me...

Can you solve this mystery?

On 3rd May, Mama decided to bring Lele to a pre-mother's day gathering at Plaza Market Cafe. Mama decided to go by cab with 2 other mummies and their babies. Mama&Lele met up with Mummy Janice & BBJ first. Together they took a cab to pick Mummy Agnes&BBJo up. BBJo was asleep soundly in Mummy Agnes' sling. As they boarded the cab, Mama commented to Mummy Agnes about BBJo sleeping. Mummy Agnes explained that BBJo missed her morning nap and finally managed to sneak a few winks as they were leaving home.

Just then, our conversation was cut off by a loud wail from Lele! Poor BBJo stirred in her sleep and opened her eyes a crack. I tried to calm him down and Lele was quiet for a minute, only to start again with more punch and tears! Poor BBJo was awakened and stared at Lele with an astonised face. BBJ was also quite stunned...

I wondered out loud if Lele cried because he was reminded of the sleeping cat at the sight of sleeping BBJo.

Both Mummy Agnes and Mummy Janice found it quite amusing how a sleeping child could trigger some (sad) memories of a sleeping cat.

Mama found it quite amusing how Lele could remember a sad incident of a few weeks past for such a long time, considering his tender age.

Lele's great discoveries.

Over the past week, Lele discovered that he could ...

1. Rub his hands
2. Fill a cup with water and empty it
3. Walk up to 10 steps unassisted (but mama was close behind to offer lotsa mental support and encouragement la)
3a. Stretch out arms or hold on to avail support when he starts to lose balance instead of stooping to his knees to crawl
4. Open and close a carton box all by himself
5. Make himself understood.
When mama and papa are talking to each other in the bus, he will try to shift attention to himself by saying VERY loudly and repeatedly,"BIR BIR!" (meaning bird) and pointing at the birds outside.
When he sees cars, he will say "kaka! kaka!"
When he sees balls, he will say "borbor!"
When he sees big boys or girls, he will say "jie jie!"
When he sees the big red lantern of our neighbour, he will say "lala!"

A big step forward...

I tendered my resignation letter on Mon. This is indeed a big step forward for me as I have been thinking about resigning to become a stay-at-home mum ever since I returned to work when Lele was 3 months old!

The reason why I waited so long to make the move is because I do not yet have my own flat. The flat we are currently residing is my husband's family's. I had wanted to wait till I get my own flat before resigning.

I believe that the 1st 3 years of a child's life is when the building blocks are laid, hence I want to garner my child with as much love, attention and guidance as I possibly can during these 3 years.

Alas, after trying to secure a flat for more than a year, we are still unsuccessful!

After discussion with hubby, I have decided to go ahead to resign.
